Group lessons available in Piano at Majura from Term 3. Contact us for more details.
In completing enrolment for your child, you are confirming that you agree to the following:
Lessons will be held on site at either Majura Primary School or St. Josephs Primary School in the dedicated spaces allocated. The teachers will collect students from their regular classroom at the student’s allocated lesson time, unless the student is capable of remembering their lesson time and making their way to the lesson room themselves (and an agreement is made between student, teacher and caregiver for the student to make their own way to lessons).
Teachers will use a weekly rotating timetable or a static weekly timetable. Teachers will work with the classroom teachers to find the best lesson times for their students to minimise any interruptions to students' once-a-week specialist classes. This means it might take a couple of weeks for the timetable to settle into its permanent form for the term. If you know that your child will be in a different classroom at their lesson time, please notify their teacher directly via text or email.
In addition to attending weekly lessons, it is expected that students will play their instrument in between lessons at home. Parental support in this area is vital for your child to succeed and progress with their learning.
The following will help to ensure your child is set up for success for their instrumental lessons:
Lesson books/materials. Your child's teachers may recommend certain texts or lesson books specific to your child's level and/or interests. Their recommendations may also include a folder for print outs and/or a notebook and pencil for students to bring to their weekly lessons. Please assist your child in packing these materials for their lesson each week. Think about how you will transport these materials to and from school for your child's weekly lesson. Some students like to use something similar to their library or home reader bag/folder.
Instrument. It is expected that students will have a well-maintained instrument available to them to play between their weekly lessons. The instrument should be appropriate for their height and level (e.g. Guitar of the appropriate size for the student, piano stool able to be adjusted to the appropriate height for the student). Teachers may be able to help guide caregivers in the purchase of their first instrument.
Practise schedule. Each teacher will be able to guide caregivers on the appropriate frequency, length, and content for home practise specific to your child's age and level. Some students may need more parental support with scheduling and assistance completing their home practise depending on their age.
Practise environment. The home practise space should be inviting and encourage learning. The space should be free from distraction or competing sounds (e.g. TV) and allow students to sit or stand with their instrument in the correct playing position.
Financial Policy
In booking lessons, you are reserving a specific time slot in your teacher’s schedule for the whole term. The lesson fee not only includes the weekly lesson time with the student, but also includes: the teacher’s planning and preparation for each lesson, administration, room hire, and public liability and indemnity insurance.
Lessons will be invoiced on a per term basis:
2026
Term 1: 8 weeks, starting in Week 2
Term 2: 11 weeks
Term 3: 10 weeks
Term 4: 9 weeks, finishing in Week 9
Exceptions to this include public holidays, pupil free days, and some whole school events (eg. School swimming carnival) where term fees will be adjusted accordingly.
Individual lesson fees
10 week term: $450
9 week term: $405
8 week term: $360
Paired lesson fees
10 week term: $337.56
9 week term: $303.80
8 week term: $270.05
These fees are scheduled to be adjusted annually in line with increases in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or other costs.
Invoices will be distributed at least two weeks prior to the beginning of term and due on the first day of each term. Payment plans can be organised upon request by emailing krpmusicinschools@gmail.com before the due date of the invoice. Late payments without a payment plan in place may incur a late fee payment. Lesson spots may be cancelled or vacated if no payment is received and there is no payment plan in place.
Payment via bank transfer is preferred. Account name, number and BSB details for completing payment can be found on your invoice. Please include your invoice number or child’s name & school in the bank transfer to assist with matching payments to invoices.
Absence Policy
Student absences: Student absences due to whole school of whole year group events (e.g. school athletics carnival, year 5 camp etc) will be rescheduled and made up by the teachers. Depending on teacher and room availability, these rescheduled lessons may take the form of any of the following: a full 30-minute on-to-one lesson, a shorter one-to-one lesson, or a group lesson with other children.
If your child is sick or will be absent at the time of their lesson for any other reason, please let the teacher or the administrator know directly and as early as possible so they can plan accordingly. Teachers are not obliged to make up these missed lessons, however, may make these lessons up at their own discretion, pending schedule and room availability.
If your child has a partial absence on the day of their lesson that doesn't involve their whole year group or whole school (e.g. when representing the school at a sporting carnival), we are happy to adjust the schedule for that day to give them best chance of making their instrumental lesson that day. We are usually able to do this if we are given a couple of days notice of the partial absence.
Teacher absences: If a teacher is absent, the teacher will make up the missed lessons. However, depending on time and room availability, these make up lessons may have to take the form of any of the following: a full 30 minute one-to-one lesson, a shorter one-to-one lesson, or a group lesson with other children.
Credits for lessons missed will only be issued in extenuating circumstances and at the discretion of the administrator.
Illness policy
Instrumental students and teachers work in close proximity, often in a small room for 30 minutes at a time. To ensure the health of both the student and teacher in this close environment, if either party is experiencing a communicable illness, they are not to attend the lesson. This is in line with school policies and procedures on illness.
If a student turns up to their lesson and the teacher suspects they have a cold or communicable illness, the teacher is not obliged to teach that lesson and will send the student back to their classroom. This lesson will be treated as an absence in the 'student absence' policy outlined above and will not be made up. If a child turns up to their lesson unwell, the teacher will notify the caregiver that this illness policy will be applied to the lesson in progress.
If a teacher is experiencing an communicable illness, they are advised to take time off from teaching until they are well. In the case where the teacher is ill on the day of a scheduled lesson, the 'teacher absence' policy described above will be applied.
Instrumental teachers do not receive sick leave entitlements, and contracting the flu or a cold prevents them from teaching, meaning a loss of income for that period. This policy helps to protect the health and livelihood of the teacher.
Lesson contract termination
If you wish to discontinue lessons, the administrator (not the teacher) must be given written notice (email or text) at least 14 days prior to the final lesson. Should you not provide the required 14 days notice about lesson contract termination prior to the final lesson, you will be required to pay the equivalent of two weeks worth of lesson fees. This fee will cover the teacher’s payment and administration for that time slot until a new student is able to be booked in.
